HAPPY NEW YEAR

As 2018 has drawn to a close and the brewery starts up again after the festive break, Pete and I would like to thank everyone who has supported us this year, it’s been a tough one but the whole team have worked hard to achieve so much.

This year marked the first time ever (due to the new kit and capacity from 2017) we have managed to start working with some other like minded breweries and businesses and collaborate on producing some beers that push us further and allow us to understand more about how we make beer.

We’ve been lucky enough to be able to brew with KCBC (our first New England style beer), Finback (new dry hopping methods and techniques), Barrier (developing our stout recipe) and OZONE (pushing the boundaries on using coffee in beer). Along with some of the most well received beers we’ve brewed to date, Millions of Peaches - Peach and Basil Sour (Our annual release), Unicorn Rodeo - XPA (with all profits donated to Pride in London), Pinball - NE Table Beer (Brewed for our 7th Birthday),

In March we were honoured to win champion beer of London at the last ever London Drinker. We have since not managed to fit it back in the schedule and we fear it may now be in the history books along with the festival itself. John and Christine worked tirelessly on making the Drinker happen, it will be very much missed this year.

We saw the return to Field Day and the Mighty Hoopla, the forward thinking festivals adopting independent beers into their festivals. Incredible line-ups, great crowd and great beers make these festivals stand out from the rest.

We also had the privilege to be invited to Cotterage Wines birthday celebrations. We managed to celebrate with a small batch brew from our Darren. While we were there Dan and I managed to explore the sights of Birmingham!

In July we hosted our annual open day for our 7th Birthday. Launching Pinball our 4% NE Table beer along side the heat wave of the summer, Pinball Geoff’s eclectic selection of pinball tables from three different decades and some grade A Mario kart action.

This year marked another expansion of our capacity. We installed two packaging tanks that will hopefully allow us to brew five times a week and give us more flexibility in our formats. Which brings our output up to around 5,000 HL per year. We’re not currently looking to expand this further this year, we will be focusing on efficiency, consistency and how we can refine our recipes and increase the standard of our beers.

The latest addition to the team is Roddy, yet to be given an official brewery title (Gruff - HR, Bruce - Health and Safety) he’s a very bouncy retriever. We look forward to spending more time with this guy!

This year we were invited to participate in Brew Dog’s Collabfest, along with the UK’s top breweries (Fierce, Wylam, Burnt Mill, Siren, to name just a few!). It was great to work with the team at Shoreditch and Dalston Chillies, to brew a Chilli and Mango Pale.

The Legendary “East London Party Bar” returned to the fantastic LCBF, run by an incredible team at We Are Beer. It is always such an incredible event, that host the best of the global breweries, i was there for all three days and still didn’t get close to experiencing everything!

2018 saw the addition of our Lager to our core canned range. We have been brewing our lager as a staple in our core range since 2014 and after 4 years of development, and with such demand for us to put it into small pack, we finally made it happen. This year we hope to put another of our favourite core beers into small pack (keep an eye out for that…!).

One of the last hurrah’s from this year’s events. We traveled across the country to some of the uk’s most legendary craft beer bars with our friends form the US, Barrier. It was one of the highlights to be able to engage with the craft beer world outside of London. e had such an amazing reception and hope to visit them again in 2019!

As for 2019… We have a few projects we cannot wait to show you. Collabs we are excited to have. And more great beers to share at events we’re planning.

One big shout out for our team here at Hackney, we are lucky enough to have a dedicated bunch who believe in what we are doing here. 2019 is go!!!
